FAQs

Can I sow grass seed all year round?

No, grass seed germinates best at a soil temperature between 10 and 18°C. The ideal periods are spring (April-May) and autumn (August-September), when the soil is moist and soft enough.

When and how do I fertilise my lawn?

For a strong and dense lawn, fertilisation is indispensable. Fertilise in spring for a good start, in summer for recovery after drought and in autumn to get the grass ready for winter. Use a specific lawn fertiliser and spread it evenly.

Why is a greenhouse useful for sowing and growing?

A greenhouse extends the gardening season and protects your plants from cold, rain and wind. This allows you to start sowing earlier and continue for longer in autumn. Moreover, a greenhouse provides a stable microclimate in which plants grow faster.

How do I look after my vegetable garden after sowing?

Water your vegetable garden regularly, remove weeds and keep the soil airy. Mulch helps to retain moisture and limit weed growth. Feed your crops on time and watch out for pests such as slugs or lice.

When and how do I plant flower bulbs?

Spring bulbs such as tulips, daffodils and crocuses should be planted in autumn (September-November) so that they flower in spring. Summer bulbs such as dahlias and gladioli should be planted in spring, after the last frost. Plant the bulbs pointing upwards, at a depth of about twice their own height.

How do I prevent my seedlings from falling over or going limp?

This problem is often caused by too little light or too much heat. Put your seedlings in a bright place, use grow lights if necessary and make sure the plants have enough space.

When can I repot or transplant my seedlings?

As soon as young plants have several leaves, you can prick them out to a larger pot. Transplant outside only when the soil temperature is high enough and there is no chance of night frost.
